About the Jathakam

A Jathakam (Kundli / birth chart) is a map of the sky at the moment and place of birth: the twelve rāśis, the nine grahas, the rising sign (Lagna), and the Vimśottari Daśā that follows from the Moon's position. This generator computes all of it from your date, time and place, using the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa by default.

What do I need to generate a Jathakam?

Date of birth, time of birth as precisely as you know it, and place of birth. Time matters most: the Lagna (ascendant) moves roughly one degree every four minutes, so an error of even fifteen minutes can change the rising sign.

What is the difference between the Rāśi and Navāṁśa charts?

The Rāśi (D1) chart is the main chart — the twelve signs and the planets in them. The Navāṁśa (D9) divides each sign into nine parts of 3°20′ each, and is read alongside the Rāśi chart, traditionally for matters of marriage and inner strength.

Which ayanamsa do the calculations use?

Calculations use the sidereal (nirayana) zodiac. Lahiri is the default ayanamsa — the one used by the Indian civil calendar — with Raman and KP available as alternatives.
