Your Rāśi — commonly called your "Moon sign" in Vedic astrology — is the zodiac sign the Moon occupied at birth. It is the sign most Jyotish predictions and matching systems are read from, distinct from the Sun sign used in Western astrology.
A Rāśi is a zodiac sign — one of twelve 30° divisions of the sidereal zodiac. In Indian astrology, "your Rāśi" normally means your Moon sign: the sign the Moon occupied at birth.
Two reasons. Indian astrology reads the Moon’s sign where Western astrology usually quotes the Sun’s, and it uses the sidereal zodiac rather than the tropical one — a difference of roughly 24° at present.
Calculations use the sidereal (nirayana) zodiac. Lahiri is the default ayanamsa — the one used by the Indian civil calendar — with Raman and KP available as alternatives.
