Sunrise / Sunset Calculator

Local solar timings by date and coordinates.

About

Sunrise and sunset for any date and place, computed from latitude, longitude and the local solar altitude — the reference points the whole Panchāṅga (and its Kalam windows) is measured from.

Frequently asked questions

Why do sunrise timings matter in Indian astrology?

The traditional day begins at sunrise, not at midnight. The Tithi and Nakshatra in force at sunrise name the whole day, and Rahu Kalam, Yamagandam and Gulika Kalam are all measured as fractions of the sunrise-to-sunset span.

How accurate are the timings?

They are computed from the date and the coordinates of the place you enter, so they reflect that exact location rather than a regional average. Local terrain and horizon height are not modelled.

Why does my local newspaper print a different time?

Printed almanacs usually quote a single time for a whole city or district, and may use a different definition of the moment of rising. A coordinate-based calculation will differ by a minute or two.
